Aged Care Service

Community Access and Services SA’s (CASSA0 Aged Care Service is funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services under the HACC and NRCP programs. CASSA also receives funding to provide services to young disabled people and their carers through the Department of Community and Social Inclusion.

CASSA’s Aged Care service is one of many programs of Community and Social Services of the Vietnamese Community in Australia/SA Chapter Inc. The Aged Care Service was established in 1994 and over this time has built a team of great workers and volunteers who deeply value working with older members of the community. All workers provide a friendly, efficient, sympathetic, non-discriminatory, confidential and respectful service that is culturally sensitive to the needs of clients.

CASSA Aged Care Mission

CASSA’s Aged Care Service provides a high quality of care to frail aged Vietnamese people and their carers. The service currently implements the Community Care Common Standards as part of its core quality service standard.

CASSA’s Aged Care service aims to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services to clients and also supports care recipients who wish to remain living at home for as long as possible.

The role of CASSA’s Aged Care Service

The role of CASSA’s Aged Care service is to meet the complex and changing needs of individual clients and the older community in general. The service does this by:

  • Providing needs assessment and on-going monitoring of these changing needs and referring clients to relevant services.
  • Providing in home and Central-based Respite services to frail elderly
  • Providing Domestic Assistance, meal services and social support services to our clients to ensure their needs are met.
  • Providing information on Aged Care and relevant services to ageing individuals within the Vietnamese community in South Australia.
  • Advocating for the needs/changing needs of Vietnamese elderly and their carers to appropriate government/NGO departments so that their needs are met.

Who can access our services?

The Aged Care services are available to Vietnamese people and their carers, who are:

  • Over the age of 65
  • Affected or impacted by dementia
  • Under 65 years of age with disability or affected by multiple health conditions

Meet the team

CASSA’s Aged Care Service has a dedicated team where each worker/volunteer has demonstrated a strong commitment, passion and empathy to provide our clients with friendly, efficient, sympathetic, non-discriminatory and respectful service.

Aged care staff/volunteer’s have a vast range of skills, knowledge and experience that helps them address the needs of the frail aged, mentally and/or physically impaired and dementia sufferers in a culturally appropriate manner.

Our services

CASSA’s Aged Care team offers the following services to individuals:

Centre Based Day Care:

Centre Based Day Care Respite groups held weekly:

  • Monday Group, from 9am to 1pm in Athol Park. The group is specifically for elderly people who are frail or suffer from dementia and live in the western area.
  • Wednesday Group, from 9am to 1pm in Parafield Garden. This group targets elderly people who have problems with memory loss or dementia and live in the northern area.

Social Clubs:

We assist elderly to access a range of group based programs to encourage active elderly care recipients and carers to meet other participants and build stronger relationships with members of the community. The Social Club operates on:

  • Tuesday Social Club held in the Western area, from 9am to 1pm.
  • Thursday Social Club held in the North-Eastern area, on the first, second and fourth Thursday of the month.

Groups outing twice a year for clients mentioned above including Centre-based Day Care.

Carer’s Support Group:

  • The Carer’s Support Group meets monthly on the third Thursday. The carers are provided with updated knowledge, learning new skills and receive relevant information about their carer’s role.
  • Carers Retreat are organised once a year for members of the Carer’s Support Group.

In Home Support:

Our In Home Services include:

  • In Home Respite care
  • Personal assistance
  • Domestic assistance
  • Cooking/Meal preparation
  • Shopping/Banking
  • Assistance to attend medical appointments
  • Other types of social support

Advocacy:

CASSA also advocates on behalf of the elderly and their carers to meet their needs and changing circumstances.

How much do services cost?

Depending on the type of service, you are asked to contribute a small fee toward the cost.
