Dear Readers,
With this special edition of Đất Mới (New Land) to mark the 30th anniversary of the settlement of the Vietnamese people in South Australia (1975-2005), our purpose is to look back on their journey, from the day they left their country of origin until today.
Đất Mới is a collection of articles, written by the very ordinary members of our community. In them, they tell how they escaped from Viet Nam, their joys when they arrived to this land full of promises, their struggles to adapt to the new environment, their efforts to survive and to succeed. They share their emotions and feelings, hopes and despairs, in one word their life, with all of us who care to read through.
Some articles are written in English for those who have difficulties with the Vietnamese language. Our hope is to leave a testimony, especially to the second generation of Vietnamese, born here in this lucky country, on how their parents have fought for them to bring them the life they now enjoy.
Despite all our efforts, mistakes may still exist in this publication. We sincerely apologise to all the people whom we have inadvertently offended and thank those who have graciously pointed them out to us.
We are very indebted to all our contributors, authors, volunteers, sponsors, businesses, to our families and friends who have supported and encouraged us in this project. Without them, it would be virtually impossible for us to publish and complete this very special edition to commemorate our 30th year of settlement in South Australia.
