Vietnamese New Year or Tet Festival is the most important celebration of the Vietnamese people. Traditionally, it is an occasion for family reunion; for family members and friends to wish good luck to each other; for children to have chance to wear new clothes in celebration.

The Vietnamese Community in Australia/SA Chapter Inc. has been organising this important Festival every year since  the Community was established. In the past ten years, the Festival has been organised as a two-day celebration at Regency Park Reserve.

Throughout the two days, thousands people from different cultural backgrounds attend the Festival. Different community groups are involved in the Festival and help enhance the spirit of multiculturalism and diversity in our society. These include the Vietnamese Dance groups, Multicultural Dance groups,  Vietnamese Youth & Students dance, Folk Dance, Fashion Parade, Belly dances, the Community Music Band, and Martial Arts display.

For the Miss ‘Ao Dài’ Competition, Children’s ‘Ao Dài’ competition, including age groups from 4 to 25 years appear in long traditional Vietnamese dresses of all different styles and colours. This beautiful display enriches the Vietnamese cultural flavour of the Festival.

Vietnamese food stalls are the most popular feature attracting good crowds. Aside from local business such as Take Away shops and Restaurants, some community members also participate in catering for the Festival as a learning experience and to contribute to this special event.

The Festival preserves the true spirit of the Vietnamese “Tet” New Year and enhances the diversity of local community. The Festival also provides families with an occasion full of family spirit, with opportunities for people of all age groups to enjoy different activities.

The Event closes at midnight on the second day with a fireworks display.

Hundreds of volunteers work tirelessly to make the Festival a success. We thank Multicultural SA for granting funds to support our Festival, the City of Port Adelaide Enfield and the City of Charles Sturt who have also provided funding as well as provision of the beautiful venue. Also, big thanks to the sponsors kindly supported by our community to make the Festival possible every year.
