Community Access and Services SA’s (CASSA0 Aged Care Service is funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services under the HACC and NRCP programs. CASSA also receives funding to provide services to young disabled people and their carers through the Department of Community and Social Inclusion.
CASSA’s Aged Care service is one of many programs of Community and Social Services of the Vietnamese Community in Australia/SA Chapter Inc. The Aged Care Service was established in 1994 and over this time has built a team of great workers and volunteers who deeply value working with older members of the community. All workers provide a friendly, efficient, sympathetic, non-discriminatory, confidential and respectful service that is culturally sensitive to the needs of clients.
The role of CASSA’s Aged Care service is to meet the complex and changing needs of individual clients and the older community in general. The service does this by:
CASSA’s Aged Care Service provides a high quality of care to frail aged Vietnamese people and their carers. The service currently implements the Community Care Common Standards as part of its core quality service standard.
CASSA’s Aged Care service aims to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services to clients and also supports care recipients who wish to remain living at home for as long as possible.
The Aged Care services are available to Vietnamese people and their carers, who are:
Depending on the type of service, you are asked to contribute a small fee toward the cost.
162 clients who were provided with one-one case management services:
Carers received ongoing respite
Carers received counselling, advocacy, information, social and/or emotional support
Carers attended the annual 3 day retreat in August and September

We assist elderly to access a range of group based programs to encourage active elderly care recipients and carers to meet other participants and build stronger relationships with members of the community.

CASS’s Aged Care Team also provided the following

Helping clients register on My Aged Care website
Home visits
Visiting friends
Accessing community functions/ festival, medical/dental appointments
Nursing home visits
Comprehension of letters from government / services/ hospital
Banking/ paying bills/shopping
CASSA also advocates on behalf of the elderly and their carers to meet their needs and changing circumstances.

The Vietnamese Community in Australia /SA Chapter Inc. (VCASA) was established in 1978, as a result of the wave of boat people (refugees) who fled Vietnamese communism after the civil war ended. This community organisation was originally formed to address the settlement needs of Vietnamese people and advocate for socially disadvantaged people and those whose human rights have been violated.
